Councillor Irek Kusmierczyk, 40, is a proud resident of Ward 7 and graduate of St. Joseph’s High School. A hard worker, Councillor Kusmierczyk had the best attendance record on City Council in his first term and strongly believes in transparency, accountability and communication, which is why he is the only City Councillor to publish their entire voting record online.
Councillor Kusmierczyk earned his PhD from Vanderbilt University in the United States and a Master Degree in Government from the London School of Economics specializing in local government and cross-border environmental relations around the Great Lakes. He has government experience working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an Atlantic Council of Canada Fellow, and is the owner of a small business called Bridges Bay.
President Roosevelt said, “we cannot always prepare the future for our youth, but we can prepare our youth for the future“. As Director of Partnerships for WEtech Alliance–a Regional Innovation Centre helping technology companies diversify Windsor’s economy–Irek built partnerships with industry, schools, the university and college to launch the FIRST Robotics program in high schools and grade schools across our region including Tecumseh Vista and St. Joseph’s High School. Irek led the permanent establishment of the Windsor Essex Great Lakes Robotics Regional tournament – the largest regional FIRST Robotics tournament in Canada – that every year will pump up to $1 million into the local economy and attract 1500 visitors to Windsor.
Irek spent four years working with and supporting homegrown entrepreneurs in the Downtown Business Accelerator.
