The most interesting federal election in Windsor in years is starting with a hotly contested Liberal nomination in Windsor-Tecumseh.
Popular city councillor Irek Kusmierczyk, courted by the party, confirmed Friday he’s seeking the nomination. He’ll face Jeewen Gill, a longtime riding association board member with multiple party ties.
Kusmierczyk on Friday repeated the Liberal mantra that Windsor and Essex County, represented by NDP MPs and MPPs, need a government member to address major issues like flooding, infrastructure and the auto industry.
“We absolutely do need a strong voice in Ottawa, and we need a strong partner that’s going to deliver investments, resources and support for this community,” he said after his announcement before more than 50 people at the Tecumseh arena, near the border with Windsor.
